Cellular Therapy
Frequently Asked Questions
Stem cells are present in the bone marrow at a higher concentration than anywhere else in the body. Stem cells are cells that can become any type of cell in the body, so they are fantastic to help heal injuries. We harvest the bone marrow in our office and then process it in our office. The stem cell rich product is then injected under ultrasound guidance directly into the part of the body that needs help.
Absolutely! Because we are using your body’s own cells, there is no risk of rejection or reaction to a foreign substance or drug. The main risks are similar to any injection – there is a minor possibility of bleeding or infection.
The benefits include healing injuries that are considered to be “old” or “chronic.” Often our patients who undergo Cellular Therapy do so because they have been told that they need surgery. Cellular Therapy often lasts for at least a year and sometimes two, delaying or eliminating the need for surgery.
Cellular therapy is used to treat all types of joint issues as well as tendon or ligamentous problems. Advanced Osteoarthritis has very good results with cellular therapy as well.
Our Approach
Cellular Therapy is done in several different ways. At The Osteopathic Way we use Bone Marrow Aspirate for Cellular Therapy as we believe your body will do better with your own cells compared to cells coming from another person (amniotic cellular therapy). Bone Marrow is a complex substance with many types of healing cells in it, including stem cells. Bone Marrow is harvested in our office under ultrasound guidance. It is a relatively easy procedure with very little down time.
Cellular Therapy works to relieve pain and improve function in as little as 2 weeks, and lasts for up to 2 years.
What areas of the body we treat:
- Neck
- Thoracic spine
- Low back
- Knee
- Ankle
- Foot
- Shoulder
- Elbow
- Wrist
- Hand
