Proliferative Therapy
Proliferative therapy or ‘prolotherapy’ typically involves injecting local anesthetic (often lidocaine), dextrose and other substances directly into or adjacent to the injured or damaged tissue. Traditionally this therapy was used without imaging guidance such as ultrasound.
At The Osteopathic Way we have combined proliferative therapy with image guidance to improve our results. These injections activate the body’s immune cells, stimulating the inherent capacity of the body to heal on its own. This is a very different approach than having a standard steroid injection.
Steroids, while good at relieving inflammation, come with a serious set of risks. Prolotherapy is a strategy of working with your body’s own healing capacity with very little risk.
